Compare the whole assisted workflow with the existing workflow on like-for-like cases. Measure preparation + processing/operator time + checking + corrections + export/reconciliation; separate elapsed waiting time from paid human effort so both remain visible.
- Reconcile equipment tags, quantities, units and relevant specification requirements against the approved reference.
- Check the wrong-revision and conflicting-document cases explicitly.
- Record false additions as well as omissions; an impressive-looking extra item can also distort a bid.
- Confirm that an estimator can follow a disputed output back to the correct source.
- Re-run the receiving-system handoff, including a failed transfer and retry.
- Review low-volume and high-review-effort economics with finance.
- Document unresolved cases and the boundary within which the result is acceptable.
Set numeric tolerances from the buyer's risk and the type of quantity, not from an arbitrary universal “95% accurate” promise. Agree non-negotiable stop cases before testing. A scorecard helps compare evidence, but a high total cannot excuse unauthorised data use, an untraceable critical omission or uncontrolled customer issue.
The NIST AI Risk Management Framework is voluntary guidance for managing risk; it is not a product approval badge. Use its emphasis on evaluating and managing the system to organise ownership and monitoring, while keeping the actual acceptance criteria tied to the contractor's work.
